I Wore Anti-radiation Underwear for a Week—It was Different from what I Expected
Over the past several years, I have done a great deal of research about radiation from modern technology and its implications for our health. At times, the things I’ve learned have been a bit depressing.
Radiation from cell phones, cell towers, smart meters, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth is everywhere these days. Cell phone companies have started to roll out 5G cell towers, Air Pods have become a standard body part, and Wi-Fi is considered a basic human right.
In short, the onslaught of radiation from wireless technologies doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
As the proliferation of wireless technologies presses forward, however, many researchers are growing increasingly concerned about its potential effects on our health. Credible studies are starting to show a correlation between exposure to EMF radiation and a host of conditions from poor sleep and depression, to cancer.
Men’s Health and EMF Radiation
One area of growing concern is the effect of EMF radiation on Men’s reproductive health. In a recent article, I wrote about the findings of three important studies on this topic.
All three of the studies looked at the same important question: does radiation from cell phone and laptop use lead to poor sperm quality in men? In all three studies, the answer was a resounding yes.
According to those studies, radiation from cell phones and laptops radiates through the testicles and leads to DNA fragmentation in sperm cells. Not only does it lead to DNA fragmentation, but initial studies are showing that it makes our sperm bad swimmers.
In two of the studies I looked at, researchers showed that sperm which had been exposed to radiation like the kind from a cell phone could not swim as far as healthy sperm over the same time period.
And when it comes to men’s reproductive health, sperm quality is not the only side effect of exposure to EMF radiation.
Two separate studies have tested the theory that EMF radiation from cell phones may also decrease testosterone levels in men. Researchers from two laboratories found that subjecting male rats to EMF radiation in doses as low as 60 minutes per day significantly decreased their serum testosterone levels.
In the most alarming study, male rats who were exposed to EMF radiation had half the serum testosterone levels as their control counterparts. Researchers considered this finding significant, meaning that we should be careful about exposing our jewels to too much radiation from technology.
As men, our bodies need testosterone in order to maintain many of our bodily functions. Decreases in testosterone result in low energy, difficulties concentrating, decreased libido, and lower muscle mass.
Fortunately, there are a few ways we can protect ourselves from too much radiation exposure. Several companies have come out with special underwear for men that is specifically designed to shield radiation. When I first learned about these products, I was skeptical.
If you’ve been around the EMF scene for as long as I have then you probably know that anti-radiation clothing products are typically, well, unsexy. In my experience, many radiation-shielding products, such as radiation-shielding underwear, resemble chain mail from the middle ages.
These products tend to be clunky, uncomfortable, and unflattering. They aren’t exactly the kind of thing you’d expect to see David Beckham modeling on a billboard in Time Square.
But I recently came across a company that has me excited for the future of anti-radiation clothing. Lambs is a new company based in France that is tackling the problem of radiation-shielding clothing with a very stylish, very comfortable twist.
All About Lambs Underwear
Lambs’ products are all manufactured with comfort in mind, so you won’t have to worry about waddling around like a penguin—more on that later.
Here is what the founder of Lambs had to say about his journey to creating Lambs:
On March 28 2018, the scientific peer review of a landmark United States government study (the National Toxicology Program of the US Department of Health and Human Services) concluded that there is “clear evidence” that radiation from mobile phones causes cancer.
This was one of the hundreds of studies those past few years that linked wireless radiation to higher risks of developing cancer, to lower sperm count (up to 50% diminution) and sperm quality, and to lower levels of testosterone.
Over 200 scientists from top scientific institutions around the world have raised the alarm on the danger of cellphone radiation after publishing over 2,000 research papers on electromagnetic fields (EMF) on biology or health. Comprehensive reports compiled hundreds of studies done on the question.
Yet, the media coverage of the numbers and the studies has been surprisingly low compared to the health impact. That’s when I discovered that the wireless industry was thinking that we are idiots.
My Shopping Experience With Lambs
As soon as I heard about Lambs, I knew I had to get my hands on their most popular product, their radiation-shielding briefs for men.
Their anti-radiation briefs come in two styles, one is called “boxer briefs” and the other is called “trunks.”
Both styles are available through their website, and I decided to go with the trunks style. The trunks style is shorter than the boxer brief style and it fits more snugly, too. The sizing was very straightforward and easy to navigate.
Lambs is from France, so their sizes fit European body types very well. This was a relief because in the past I have ordered similar products from China and the sizes were much smaller than what we are used to in the West.
Since I wear size 32 pants, I decided to go with the medium size. For a single pair I paid $45. Lambs offers special discounts if you order multiple pairs of underwear at a time. For example, if I had ordered three pairs at once then I would have paid just $38 each, a savings of $21 in total. For additional savings, you can also sign up for a subscription.
I usually like to test out a product before I sign up for a subscription, so I stuck with just a single pair of underwear and went ahead with a one-time purchase.
The checkout process was secure and seamless. I entered my credit card info and my address, and my order was complete in under a minute. Before long, I received an email confirming my order which included a tracking number.
Shipping took a bit longer than I expected. It took about 5 business days to get my Lambs at my home in California. Even though I am used to getting products within two days, 5 business days isn’t so bad considering the underwear had to be shipped from Europe to Los Angeles, a pretty large distance.
My Experiment
Once I got my briefs in the mail, I couldn’t wait to try them out. I decided I would wear my new radiation-shielding underwear for an entire week before giving my opinion here.
To keep them fresh, I washed my briefs every night. I figured this would help me assess how durable the briefs are and if they are susceptible to fading from frequent washing.
So, after a full week of wearing radiation-shielding underwear from Lambs, here is everything I’ve learned and why I will be buying more of these bad boys in the future.
Comfortability and Fit
The first thing I noticed when I slipped on my fresh pair of Lambs was just how comfortable they are. For anti-radiation fabric, the underwear is surprisingly stretchy, light, and breathable.
I wore my anti-radiation underwear with shorts, pants, slacks, and gym shorts. The underwear fit perfectly in all the above cases. What I like best about this underwear is that it’s snug around the thigh, but comfortable at the waist and in the crotch.
The elastic waistband is wide and not too tight. Meanwhile, the elastic around the thighs is snug enough to prevent the briefs from riding up, but not so snug that it cuts off my circulation.
Over my one week of wearing them, I never felt like my Lambs were riding up or that they were squishing my equipment. Instead, I felt like they struck the right balance between comfortability and support. They offered enough support to my crew so that I could wear slacks and gym shorts while feeling totally supported—thank you Lambs.
There was only one situation in which my Lambs felt less than ideal. While my Lambs typically felt pleasant to wear, they felt a little bit scratchy and non-absorbent when I worked up a sweat at the gym. Going forward, I’ll probably stick to regular undies for the gym, simply because they are better equipped to absorb sweat.
I would say that Lambs radiation-shielding underwear is very comfortable. While the fabric is ever-so-slightly more rigid than a pure cotton fabric, the difference is barely noticeable, and this tradeoff is worth the radiation-shielding benefits of a silver-mesh fabric.
Style
In my opinion, style is where Lambs EMF radiation-shielding underwear really shines. The underwear comes in three slick colors—gray, blue, and red. The pair I chose are blue, and the blue is bright.
The cut of the fabric is modern, and the briefs come to my mid/upper thigh.
The trunks style looks a lot like popular brands of sports briefs, so you won’t draw any attention in the locker room for sporting anti-radiation briefs. To the contrary, the briefs are minimalist and don’t even have the Lambs logo except for a small tag sewn on the front that simply says, “Lambs.”
If you choose to go with the trunks style, you should know that this style does not come with a fly. While this didn’t bother me since I prefer underwear without a fly, I could see how this might be a nuisance to some people.
If you prefer radiation-shielding briefs that do have a fly, then consider getting the “boxer briefs” style of Lambs. Even though those briefs are a bit longer, they include a built-in fly.
Radiation Protection
When it comes down to it, radiation protection is truly the most important feature of radiation-shielding underwear. As much as Lambs makes a heck of a pair of briefs, the radiation protection component of their underwear is what really made them a great value for me.
Lambs radiation-shielding underwear uses a technology which they’ve dubbed “WaveStopper” silver-lining technology. This technology is a fancy name for the same kind of silver mesh used in other EMF-shielding products.
What really sets Lambs apart as a company is their rigorous testing standards. Lambs underwear is independently tested and certified by the MET Laboratory in Baltimore, Maryland to block over 99% of cellphone and Wi-Fi radiation.
Of course, instead of just believing Lambs’ claims, I wanted to test my underwear to make sure they were offering the protection claimed by Lambs.
To test if my briefs could block out the radiation of a phone call, I placed a phone call to my brother and then quickly wrapped the phone in my anti-radiation underwear. As soon as the phone was completely wrapped up in the underwear, my phone dropped the call.
This tiny experiment shows that, as claimed, Lambs radiation-shielding underwear is capable of blocking cellphone radiation, like the kind from an ongoing phone call.
This was a promising finding because some products that claim to shield EMF’s don’t work at all. I was happy to find that Lambs radiation protection briefs worked exactly as advertised.
Durability
Since I’ve only worn my Lambs anti-radiation underwear for a week, I can’t speak definitively to their durability. What I can say, however, is that the materials used in their construction seem very high quality and durable.
I have washed my briefs seven times and the color has not faded and the seams are all intact.
I also went to the gym twice and my Lambs underwear held up perfectly well.
I will update this article when I’ve had the chance to wear them a bit more, but for now I feel confident saying that this underwear is very durable.
Value
Depending on how you look at it, Lambs anti-radiation briefs for men may represent a fantastic value or a ridiculous expense.
Yes, Lambs briefs cost $45, a hefty price tag if you are comparing them to basic cotton underwear. But regular, cotton underwear doesn’t offer any of the following benefits you get with Lambs anti-radiation underwear:
- The briefs shield your squad from 99.99% of radiation
- Protection for your sperm silos
- Shielding for your testosterone generators
- Reduce oxidative stress on the cells of your testes
- Anti-microbial fabric
When you think of all the benefits that come with protecting your manhood from the onslaught of radiation in our current environment, the price of anti-shielding briefs like Lambs suddenly seems worth it to me.
Not to mention, other brands of radiation-shielding underwear for men often cost well over $60 per pair. At the bulk price of ~$35 per pair, Lambs underwear is a tremendous value.
