EMF radiation is all around us. While some of this radiation comes from natural sources, like the Earth’s magnetic field, we are increasingly being exposed to unnatural sources of EMF radiation from electronic devices.
Modern communication devices, such as wireless routers, smartphones, Bluetooth speakers, and smart meters, generate artificial EMF’s in order to function. As these devices proliferate all around us, our exposure to EMF’s continues to grow.
People are starting to understand the potential health consequences of EMF radiation exposure. As they do, many are looking for ways to reduce their exposure. Fortunately, there are a number of measures you can take to reduce your exposure to EMF’s.
While many of the ways you can reduce your EMF exposure are straightforward, like the steps I go over in this guide, there are other ways to protect yourself, too. One of the more advanced ways to protect yourself from EMF radiation is with EMF protection clothing.
EMF protection clothing, as its name implies, is a special type of clothing designed to shield your body from EMF radiation in your environment. This type of clothing is also called EMF-shielding, or radiation-shielding clothing.
Before I get into the details of how this type of clothing works, let me clarify what is meant by the term “radiation-shielding.”
In physics, radiation can be categorized into two types—ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation. While EMF’s are a type of radiation, they are of the non-ionizing variety. When I discuss the radiation-shielding properties of EMF protection clothing, I am referring to their ability to shield or attenuate non-ionizing radiation. This includes the radiation produced by electronics and communications devices. It does not, however, include ionizing radiation, like the kind from x-rays.
Now that we’ve established what EMF protection shielding is, let’s go over how you can use it to shield yourself from EMF’s. In the following sections, I’ll describe how EMF-shielding clothing works. I will give a brief overview of what you should lookout for when choosing your own EMF-shielding clothing. Finally, I’ll recommend my favorite EMF protection clothing and hats.
How Does EMF Protection Clothing Work?
Like most EMF-shielding products, EMF protection clothing works by creating a physical barrier between your body and the radiation present in your environment. Specifically, the type of barrier created by EMF protection clothing is a special kind of barrier known as a Faraday cage.
A Faraday cage is a barrier made of aluminum, or other conductive materials, designed specifically so that it cannot be permeated by electromagnetic waves. A Faraday cage is not made of solid metals, however; rather, it is often constructed as a mesh.
If you’ve ever noticed the mesh lining on the viewing window of your microwave oven, then you’ve witnessed a working Faraday cage in action. The mesh of a Faraday cage is made specifically so that the holes of the mesh are too small for electromagnetic waves to pass through. So long as the holes of the mesh are smaller than the amplitude of the electromagnetic waves, the waves are blocked by the conductive mesh and cannot pass through it.
Similarly, EMF protection clothing is lined with a conductive mesh fabric, usually silver- or copper-based, which attenuates electromagnetic waves as they pass through. The result of this process, in theory, is that little radiation can make it from the environment through the EMF-shielding fabric, thus protecting your body and internal organs under the clothing.
Does EMF Protection Clothing work for 5g?
Generally, EMF protection clothing will work well for shielding your body from the radiation caused by 5g cell towers. Of course, EMF protection can only protect your body in the places it covers. When choosing EMF protection clothing specifically for shielding yourself from 5g cell signals, look for products which are effective across the range of 600MHz to 6GHz, the range used by 5g cell towers.
In general, most EMF-shielding products are designed to be effective in this range. If a product claims to attenuate EMF radiation, then it will probably be effective in shielding the radiation from 5g cell towers, as well. Other sources of radiation this type of clothing attenuates include:
- Smartphones
- Cell Towers (including 5g)
- Wireless Routers
- Smart Meters
- Bluetooth Devices
- Electric Appliances
- Wireless Hot Spots
Considerations When Choosing EMF Protection Clothing
Now that we’ve looked at Faraday cages and the properties of EMF-shielding fabrics, let’s talk about the considerations you should keep in mind when looking for your own EMF protection clothing.
Effectiveness
Your first, and possibly most important, consideration when shopping for EMF protection clothing should be the actual effectiveness of the product. Recent advancements in our understanding of EMF radiation and its negative health effects has caused an explosion in demand for EMF-shielding products. In response, some unsavory companies have begun to sell EMF-shielding products which don’t shield radiation or EMF’s at all.
To verify the effectiveness of EMF clothing, try to stick to products that have been rigorously tested for their effectiveness. Ideally, you’ll want to look for products which list their attenuation rating in decibels. Decibel ratings are a common measurement used to describe how well EMF-shielding products shield EMF radiation. Use the following chart to convert a product’s decibel rating into its reduction capability as a percentage.
Alternatively, you may want to test the effectiveness of EMF protection clothing yourself. To do this, you’ll need a high-quality EMF meter. EMF meters allow you to measure how much EMF radiation is present near the meter. I use the Trifield TF2 Meter, which is a well-recognized meter in the industry. It’s easy to use and highly accurate.
Comfortability
Next to effectiveness, the next thing you’ll want to consider is the comfortability of the clothing. What you’ll find is that not all EMF protection clothing is made the same. Some brands are highly effective at shielding your body from radiation, but look and feel like a space suit from Xenon, Girl of the 21st Century.
Since EMF-shielding clothing typically incorporates aluminum and copper mesh, it may not be as soft or as flexible as typical clothing. One company that’s looking to change all of this, however, is a clever startup called Lambs.

EMF Protection Clothing I Recommend
Finding EMF protection clothing which strikes the right balance between comfortability and effectiveness can be challenging. In this section, I’ve compiled some of my favorite clothing products for shielding your body from EMF radiation.
Underwear
If there is a single piece of EMF protection clothing you shouldn’t go without, it’s EMF-shielding underwear. EMF-shielding underwear is incredibly important for men and women alike because it shields our reproductive organs. One study, finalized in 2010, showed that EMF radiation may have serious effects on male fertility by disrupting sperm function and sperm production in the testes.
Since underwear is in close contact with our bodies all day, it’s important to find a fabric that is breathable and comfortable, as well as effective. Of all the EMF-shielding underwear products available today, there is one that I can’t get enough of—Lambs.

I personally recommend their trunks for men. This underwear fits well and is breathable, it’s much better than any of the cheap products I’ve used on the market. They also have underwear for women, though I can’t comment on how those fit for obvious reasons!
Don’t be alarmed ladies, Lambs has underwear for women as well here. Although I have not personally tested them, I can only assume they are just as great as the men’s underwear knowing how good Lamb’s clothing is.
Caps and Beanies
Next to our reproductive organs, our brain stands out as one of the most sensitive and important organs in the body. Not only are our brains very sensitive, but a growing body of scientific research is showing that the brain may be vulnerable to the EMF radiation emitted by electronics. Some studies have even correlated cell phone use with an increased likelihood of developing brain tumors.
EMF-shielding hats and caps provide an additional layer of protection between our brains and the ambient EMF’s in our environment. I’ve found that the two most convenient styles to wear are caps and beanies.
I personally love this EMF-shielding cap from Lambs because it looks and feels like a standard, run-of-the-mill baseball cap. I can throw it on in the morning without having to do my hair.
While the cap doesn’t offer perfect coverage, leaving the area around your ears and back of the head mostly uncovered, it does protect a good amount of your head from radiation.
Unlike EMF-shielding caps, EMF protection beanies are form fitting and offer better protection for the back of your head. Of course, they may not look as trendy in the summertime, but they are still a great way to protect your head from EMF radiation.

The beanie looks great on men and women, and the fabric is of a higher quality than what you’ll find in similar products. What’s more, Lambs’ products are rigorously tested by outside labs for effectiveness, so you can be sure you’re getting a quality product which does the job you need it to do.
Shirts
EMF protection shirts protect the organs of your torso from ambient EMF radiation. What I’ve found is that it is difficult to find an EMF-shielding shirt that is both comfortable and effective. Frankly, the selection online isn’t nearly as great as it is for protective underwear.
However, Lambs recently released EMF protective shirts for men and EMF protective shirts for women.
Hoodies
Hoodies are an excellent form of EMF protection clothing. Not only do hoodies provide warmth in the winter, but they offer great coverage. By wearing the hood, you can protect your head and the full length of your neck from EMF radiation.
EMF-shielding hoodies are great to wear in the evening, or even while lounging around the house. Lambs does not offer EMF protecting hoodies at this time, but here is a men’s EMF protective hoodie for men on Amazon and one for women as well.
Maternity Clothing
If you’ve read any of my articles about the effects of EMF radiation on pregnancy, then you know how important it can be to shield yourself during pregnancy. Developing babies have thinner skulls and bones, so they may be especially vulnerable to EMF radiation.
Unfortunately, there are not many clothing options available for pregnant women who wish to limit their exposure to EMF’s.
There are however, great blankets and covers that you can place over your baby bump to help protect you and you little. I like this maternity blanket from DefenderShield on Amazon. DefenderShield is a well known brand in the EMF protection industry and so you know you can count on them to keep you protected.
Products to Avoid
While this guide has focused on EMF protection clothing—like underwear, beanies, and shirts—there are several other products on the market which claim to reduce your exposure to EMF’s. These products include “EMF-shielding” bracelets, anti-radiation stickers, and necklaces.
I do not have direct experience with all these products, but I have tested several of them, and they have not been effective. In order to shield yourself from EMF radiation, there must be some barrier between you and the source of the radiation.
As we discussed in this guide, Faraday cages are an effective concept that effectively block the travel of EMF radiation. A small necklace or bracelet cannot shield your body from radiation because it doesn’t introduce an actual barrier. There is no conceivable way for a small stone on your wrist to jump around your body and dispel ambient radiation. It isn’t scientifically plausible.
When you go to purchase your own EMF-shielding clothing, keep this in mind. It may be tempting to purchase some products, like stones, that claim to shield radiation all around you; but these aren’t likely to be effective. Save your money and your health by investing in products which have been rigorously tested and which adhere to scientifically proven methods for attenuating radiation.
Pitfalls of EMF Protection Clothing
EMF protection clothing, especially EMF-shielding underwear, are incredible products. They offer an easy way to reduce your body’s exposure to ambient radiation.
It should be said, however, that you need to use these products wisely. Simply wearing EMF-shielding clothing will not offer your body 100% coverage from EMF radiation. EMF protection clothing should be viewed as an added layer of protection, but it shouldn’t keep you from implementing other strategies to reduce your exposure.

Another pitfall of EMF protection clothing comes from a misunderstanding of how these products work. Remember that EMF protection clothing works by creating a barrier between your body and a radiation source. The metal mesh fabric does not let EMF waves pass through, it reflects them instead.
The reflective properties of EMF-shielding fabrics mean they are great at keeping radiation out, but they are equally effective at keeping radiation in. For example, you should never keep your cellphone inside of an EMF-shielding shirt or underwear. By placing your cell phone inside of the EMF protection clothing, you may expose your body to increased radiation since the radiation cannot escape through the barrier of your EMF protection clothing.
By using this clothing wisely, and not over relying on it for protection from EMF’s, you can reduce your exposure to harmful EMF radiation.
